Keep coursework after removing a member

Removing a student used to take their marked work with them. In Alva Courses, graded coursework and the feedback you wrote on it now survive Unenroll and Delete Member, so a course you assessed still has a teaching record behind it.

What is kept

A copy of the student's marked quiz work is taken before the removal goes through, and it holds:

Unenroll keeps the work for that one course. Delete Member keeps it for every store the student ever studied with, and each store only ever keeps its own courses' work.

What is not kept

An attempt still in progress is not retained — it was never submitted and never marked, so there is nothing to keep. Work on a course whose store link has already gone is not retained either, because there is no store to keep it for.

Where the kept work lives

Retained coursework is filed against your store rather than against the member, which is what lets it outlive the member record. It is not attached to a member profile, and it is deliberately left out of the member CSV export, which covers current members only.

A legal erasure request still destroys it

When Shopify forwards a customer erasure request for that person, everything this store holds about them is destroyed — including the retained coursework and the feedback inside it. Retention exists so an ordinary tidy-up of your member list does not throw away your teaching record. It is not a way to hold data a customer has asked you to delete, and it does not delay or reduce what an erasure request removes.
