How-to
Review and grade coursework
Every submission waiting on you lands in one place. Alva Courses collects them in Evaluations — one row per waiting submission, oldest first, so the student who has been waiting longest is the one at the top.
What the queue lists
Each row shows the student, the course, which attempt this is, when it arrived, and a Pending evaluation badge. Rows leave the queue the moment you close them. With nothing waiting, the page reads "No submissions are waiting".
Grade a submission
- Open Alva Courses and choose Evaluations.
- Select the course title on the row you want to review.
- Work down Lesson completion, Submitted quiz attempts, Current reflections and Prior evaluations.
- Write one piece of feedback in the Evaluation feedback box.
- Enter a Final score, or pick a letter from Grade.
- Set Outcome to Pass, or to Revise and resubmit.
- Select Mark evaluation complete.
Reading the work
The submission page shows every question next to the answer given, the points awarded, your model answer where you wrote one, and any feedback already left on that answer. Reflection entries appear in full, with their prompt. It is the student's current workspace, not a frozen copy of the moment they pressed submit.
One piece of feedback, one outcome
Evaluation feedback is a single holistic note on the whole submission, not a comment per lesson. Leave Visible to student ticked to publish the result, or clear it to record a private assessment. A score between 0 and 100 fills in the matching grade letter.
Sending work back
Revise and resubmit reopens the course. The student can change lessons, retake quizzes and rewrite reflections, then submit again as a new attempt. Nothing is overwritten: each cycle keeps its own feedback, grade and outcome, and earlier cycles stay readable under Prior evaluations. A closed evaluation cannot be edited; the next submission opens a fresh cycle.
If passing is refused
You cannot pass a submission while one of its submitted quizzes is still awaiting your review. Finish those first — see coursework stuck awaiting evaluation. A pass also sends the completion email and, where certificates are enabled, the certificate.
