How it works
Both Alva Courses plans give you the full course platform — the drag-and-drop builder, rich lessons, quizzes, drip scheduling, custom certificates, member management and branded enrolment emails. The choice comes down to hosting: Unlimited uses Shopify-hosted files, while Unlimited Pro adds Alva Video Hosting for videos that exceed Shopify's limits and Alva File Storage for course files up to 500 MB.

1. Open the plan selection page
Alva Courses plans are chosen on Shopify's plan selection page for the app, not in the app's Settings. When you open Alva Courses without a plan, it takes you there automatically. After that, use an upgrade link in the app — on the Unlimited plan, the Alva Video Hosting and Alva File Storage cards under Latest updates on the Home page open it — or go to admin.shopify.com/store/your-store/charges/alva-courses/pricing_plans, replacing your-store with your store's handle. Both plans appear side by side with their prices and the 14-day free trial.
2. Review what Unlimited includes
Unlimited at $9.99/mo gives you unlimited courses, members and comments, progress tracking, custom certificates, access deadlines and the thank-you page. Video is hosted by Shopify and capped at 1 GB and 10 minutes per video.
3. Review what Unlimited Pro adds
Unlimited Pro at $14.99/mo includes everything in Unlimited plus Alva Video Hosting — 50 GB of dedicated storage with no per-video size or length limits, so you can upload long or large videos directly. It also adds Alva File Storage — 10 GB for PDFs, audio, images and other course files up to 500 MB each, delivered through secure, expiring links.
4. Pick the plan that fits your videos
Choose Unlimited if your videos stay under the 1 GB and 10-minute Shopify cap, or if you embed from YouTube, Vimeo or Loom. Choose Unlimited Pro if you upload long or large videos, or course files over 20 MB, directly. Either way, start the 14-day free trial and switch later if your needs change.
What learners see
Your plan is invisible to students. On both plans, learners watch lessons in the same branded storefront course player with a sidebar lesson list, progress bar and completion ticks. The only difference is that Unlimited Pro lets you serve longer, larger videos and larger course files through Alva hosting.
