Edit your email templates

Alva Courses keeps the wording of each course email in its own template. One page in the Shopify admin holds all of them: a tab per email, a live preview, and merge variables you can drop into any line.

Open the editor

1. Open Shopify admin, then open Alva Courses.
2. Go to Settings and find the Email Template section.
3. Choose Edit Email Template to open the Email Templates page.
4. Select the tab for the email you want to change, edit its fields, and save.

Which emails you can edit

Four tabs: Enrollment email, Completion email (grades A–C), Completion email (grades D–F) and Monthly digest. Each tab owns six fields — Email Subject, Email Title, Email Message, Button Text, Footer Text and Login Hint. An order containing several courses uses the enrollment template too, sent as a single email.

What every email shares

From Name, the colours, the logo size, the button rounding and the text alignment sit outside the tabs and apply to every course email. A second email type needs its own words, not its own palette.

Insert a variable

Every field has an Insert Variable button offering thirteen placeholders — {course.title}, {customer.first_name}, the order number, the enrolment expiry date and the rest. Alva Courses fills each one in as the email is sent. The same panel also lists one {contact.your_key} placeholder for every contact property your store uses, so an email can greet a student with their cohort, their employer or anything else you store against them. A student with no value saved for that property gets an empty space, never the placeholder text.

Variables are simple slots, replaced once in a single pass. There are no loops, no conditions and no filters, so a template cannot contain logic — write the words you want and let the placeholders carry the details. A name Alva Courses does not recognise is left in the email as ordinary text, so check the spelling.

Preview and send a test

The Email Preview pane redraws as you type and has a Dark Mode and Light Mode toggle, so you check both before students do. Send Test Email delivers the current template to any address you name.
