Use Alva Courses templates in Shopify Flow

Alva Courses publishes six ready-made templates in Shopify Flow’s template library. Each one installs a complete workflow, such as tagging students who finish a course or logging quiz results to Google Sheets, so you only add your own details and turn it on.

What the Alva Courses templates do

A template is a finished workflow that Shopify Flow copies into your store. The Alva Courses templates connect Alva’s course triggers and actions to everyday jobs: tagging graduates, alerting you to failed quizzes, sharing comments with your team, enrolling tagged customers, logging quiz results and rewarding completions.

Installing a template creates an ordinary workflow that starts turned off. Each template has a step-by-step article that explains how it works and how to test it.

The six templates

Template What it does What you fill in
Tag customers who complete a course Adds the course-completed tag to every student who finishes a course. Nothing. You can turn it on straight away.
Email me when a student fails a quiz Emails you the score and answers when a student fails a quiz or runs out of time. The email address that receives the alerts.
Post new lesson comments to Slack Posts each student comment to Slack, with a link to the lesson. Connect Slack and choose a channel.
Enroll tagged customers in a course Enrols a customer and emails their access link when you add the enroll-course tag. The course ID or URL handle.
Log quiz results to Google Sheets Adds a row to a spreadsheet each time a quiz attempt is graded. Connect Google and choose the spreadsheet and tab.
Award loyalty points for completing a course Gives a student 100 loyalty points in Rivo when they finish a course. Install the Rivo loyalty app, and change the points if you like.

Install a template

1. Open the template library

In the Shopify admin, open Apps, then Flow, and click Create workflow. Choose Browse templates.

2. Find the Alva Courses templates

Search for Alva Courses, or open the Apps filter and choose Alva Courses. Click a template to preview its steps.

3. Install the template

Click Install. Flow copies the workflow into your store, turned off, and opens it in the editor.

4. Fill in your details

Flow highlights any field the template leaves for you, such as an email address, a Slack channel, a spreadsheet or a course ID. Alva Courses lists course IDs under Settings → Integrations → Shopify Flow.

5. Turn the workflow on

Click Turn on workflow. Alva Courses only sends a trigger to Flow while a turned-on workflow uses it, so nothing runs before this step.

Change a template after you install it

An installed template is your own workflow, so you can edit any step. Add a condition on Course ID to limit it to one course, change the tag, the points or the message, or add more actions. Every Alva action you can add is described in Shopify Flow actions.

Flow copies a template when you install it. A later update to an Alva Courses template doesn’t change a workflow you have already installed.

Build a workflow that has no template

Five more recipes, such as sending course completions to Klaviyo or reminding students before their access expires, are step-by-step guides rather than templates. Each takes about five minutes to build in the Flow editor, and you’ll find them all in the Shopify Flow help category.
